Episode 20: Anxious Attachment In High-Achieving Women: Why Success Never Fixes It

You can be the most capable woman in the room and still feel frantic the moment someone pulls back. In this episode of The Unfuckwithable Woman, somatic therapist Briony Montgomery reframes anxious attachment as a nervous system strategy rather than a personality flaw, and explains why achievement, however impressive, was never going to regulate a dysregulated attachment system.

The conversation traces this pattern back through the mother wound, since attachment style forms in the first relationship, long before dating ever enters the picture, and further into the ancestral line, naming how these patterns travel down a family without anyone choosing them. Briony then zooms out to the culture itself: why secure attachment is genuinely hard to build inside a world that isolates us, measures women by their functioning, and rewards outsourced validation, and why there's a real swing happening back toward community and co-regulation.

The episode closes with an extended body-based practice for the moment an old attachment wound activates, and a redefinition of success itself, not achievement, but capacity, built through safety and the release of stored charge from personal, ancestral and cultural sources alike.
